Wilma Hungate

Wilma Hungate, 99 of Tipton died at 7:45 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at her residence. Wilma has also lived in McLeansboro, Illinois, Vincennes, Indiana, and Columbus, Indiana. She was born July 21, 1917 in McLeansboro to Norman and Cora (Mann) Smith. She married Walter Hungate on January 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1994. She had worked in the family business, Hungate/Dibble Hatchery in Columbus and later at the Hy-Line Hatchery in Tipton and at Ayr-Way in Kokomo.

She is survived by four children, Sue Fulks, Scottsdale, Arizona, Melvin Lee Hungate and wife Donna, Byhalia, Mississippi, James Allen Hungate and wife Patricia, Atoka, Tennessee, Vickie Lynn Nelson and husband Mike, Tipton; thirteen grandchildren, Mark Fulks, Claudia Schrivner, Deborah Botruff, Lonnie Hungate, Melvin Lee Hungate, Jr., Mike Hungate, Sandra Snow, Melinda Hungate, Donald Hungate, Robert Hungate, Lauri Hungate, Nate Nelson, David Nelson; 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in law, Jeanie Hungate, Byhalia, Mississippi.

Wilma was preceded in death by, a son, Kenneth Ray Hungate, five siblings, Loreen Tobin, Harry Smith, Samuel Smith, Willard Smith, and Clarence Smith; two grandchildren, Christina Beth Hungate and Steven Fulks.

Wilma’s funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Melvin Hungate, Jr. and Rev. Patricia Hungate presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 9:30 until time of the service on Saturday.
