William R. "Bill" Smith, 71 of Tipton died Monday evening January 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born March 19, 1942 in Tipton County to William E. & Margery I. (Thompson) Smith. On September 21, 1986 he married Gwen M. Whisler and she survives. He and Gwen had also lived in Estero, Florida for 20 years.
Bill worked at Chrysler in Kokomo for 30 years as an inspector and production worker, retiring February 5, 1995. He had been a member of the Lions Club in Tipton, Kempton and Florida. Bill attended the Goldsmith Methodist Church. He loved collecting antique cars and was a marathon runner in the 1980's.
Survivors besides his wife Gwen include his mother of Tipton; one daughter, Tamela Watson, Sharpsville; one sister, Judy Phillipe, Tipton; three grandchildren, Kayla, Patrick and Kyle Ray, and one great-grandson, Brayden Ray.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Dunning presiding. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Lions Club, 1003 N. East Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
