William “Bill” Martin Maynard

April 5, 1941 — April 17, 2016

William “Bill” Martin Maynard, 75 year old resident of Tipton, Indiana died of complications from cancer on Sunday, April 17, 2016. He was born on April 5, 1941 in Tipton to Elsie (Martin) and William Monroe Maynard.

He graduated from Tipton High School in 1959 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Indiana University School of Business in 1963. He was a member of Delta Upsilon. He began his career in manufacturing / management with International Harvester in Indianapolis and then General Motors in Bedford, Indiana. His career included years in construction, and the last many years were devoted to sales and design in Heating and Air Conditioning. He was still employed and loved working for Precision Comfort Systems in Westfield, Indiana concentrating on light commercial and residential projects.

Bill was a member of Kemp United Methodist Church where he actively participated in Praise Team, Choir, and numerous church committees and leadership position, and was a board member of Mustard Seed. Twenty five years ago he organized BrassWorks (brass ensemble) and helped found the Tipton Community Band; until his recent illness he continued to play in both. He supported and was involved in various community activities.

In addition to music, Bill’s many hobbies through the years included trains, cars, cave exploration, golf, political and American history, wood working, and sports. He also enjoyed any activity in which his twin grandsons were involved. Bill will always be remembered as a funny guy with a joke for every occasion (usually appropriate), a story teller, and for having a remarkable memory for factual information and for trivia (some better forgotten). He was a problem solver who enjoyed a challenge and saw potential for improvement in everything. Bill demonstrated strong beliefs and possessed a strong Christian faith. People will remember him as dependable, decisive, resourceful, creative, and fiercely devoted to his family.

On August 17, 1963 Bill married Conita Smith and she survives. He is also survived by their only child, Alyssa G. McCool and her husband Chad of Westfield and twin grandsons Max and Will McCool.

Funeral services for Bill will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, at the Kemp United Methodist Church in Tipton with Pastor Gary Ebberhart presiding.
