Wayne Atkisson

E. Wayne Atkisson, aged 90, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 20, 1934 in Kokomo, Indiana, he was the son of Edgar Eldon and Emmagene (Newton) Atkisson. Wayne married his beloved wife, Barbara Cardwell, on January 6, 1957, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage while raising four children. 

Wayne was a skilled Tool and Die Maker and was the proud owner of Progress Tool and Die until his retirement in 1996. A graduate of Sharpsville High School in 1953, he honorably served in the United States Navy from November 1954 to November 1958. Wayne was a member of the Oakford Separate Baptist Church and held memberships in the Tipton Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion in Tipton. 

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, of Tipton; daughters Kathy Cook and her husband Grant of Augusta, Georgia; Pamela Porter of Tipton; and Carmen Payne and her husband Rick of Tipton; son Mike Atkisson and his wife Jamie of Tipton; brother David Atkisson and his wife Sue of Kokomo; along with numerous grandchildren: Matthew (Amy) Porter, Katrina (Dustin) Fenn, Melanie (Tommy) Lovelace, Trent (Danielle) Atkisson, Erik (Addy) Atkisson, Ethen (Jenny) Atkisson, Brian (Maegan) Cook, Susannah Cook, Lara (Chase) Johnson, Kirstin Payne (fiance Parker Adams), Kelsey Payne (Adam Humbert) and great-grandchildren Milly, Ryker, Marshall, George, Collin, Evelyn, Zoey, Kire, Lincoln, Silas, Nevaeh, Addison, Liam and Haisley. Wayne is preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Bentley and her husband James, his brother Jim Atkisson, and son-in-law Kevin Porter. 

Funeral services will be on Friday February 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David Stout presiding. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. The Austin Masonic Lodge will perform a service at 3:00 p.m. to begin the funeral. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his contributions to his family, community, and professions.
