Vickey R. Mccorkle

September 8, 1942 — August 26, 2017

Vickey Rose (Rector) McCorkle, a lifelong resident of Tipton County, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2017 following a valiant battle with cancer.  Vickey was born on September 8, 1942 to Lowell Oren and Margaret (Pulliam) Rector of Kempton.  A 1960 graduate of Jefferson Township High School, Vickey went on to complete her training in Elementary Education at Ball State University.  During her college years, she met Ray McCorkle, whom she wed on August 25, 1963.  Two children, Fritz Wayne and Jenny Lind, were born of this union.  Vickey and Ray were both active in 4-H as 10 year members who were heavily involved in raising and showing livestock.  Vickey went on to serve as a 4-H leader for many years.  After Ray’s untimely death in 1980, Vickey continued as an elementary and music teacher, retiring from Tri-Central School Corporation in 2008 after 36 years of leading thousands of students to brighter futures.

For numerous years, Vickey was an integral part of Curtisville Christian Church, serving as pianist, organist, choir director and adult Sunday School teacher.  She was particularly fond of orchestrating Easter cantatas and playing the organ at Maundy Thursday services.

Vickey shared her father’s love of Tipton County politics, serving for many years on the County Council; she was also a very active member of the Tipton County Public Library Board.

Vickey is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, Oren and Margaret Rector, her younger siblings, infant Teddy Wayne Rector and Lowell Oren Rector, Jr.  She is survived by son, Fritz (Judy) of Noblesville, daughter, Jenny of Arizona, beloved granddaughter, Madison Clare of Kokomo, sister-in-law, Gerry Rector of Florida, brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Vicky McCorkle of Windfall and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Young-Nichols funeral home on Tuesday, August 29 from 2:00-8:00 pm and on Wednesday, August 30 from 10:00-11:00 am at Curtisville Christian Church, with the service to follow at 11:00.  Internment to follow at Elwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the aides, nurses and staff of Tipton Oncology, Riverwalk Commons in Noblesville and Heartland Hospice of Indianapolis for their very kind, caring and compassionate care of “Mom.”  You were there for her when we couldn’t be—thank you.
