Susan Joyce Cunningham-McNeal, 76, of Noblesville passed away quietly at her home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from complications arising from her 2008 lung transplant. Susan was an 11-year survivor and enjoyed the extended life provided by the IU Methodist Transplant team for which the family is so appreciative.
Susan was born October 29, 1943 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Alfred G. Cunningham and Joyce M. Bailey-Cunningham. Susan was a graduate of the University of Indianapolis where she was awarded her bachelor’s degree in accounting at the age of 50. Susan completed her degree in four years while working full time with three children at home plus caring for her mother. She retired from Community Hospital in December 2007 where she worked as an accountant in the finance department. She married Max K. McNeal on January 5, 2008 and continued her accounting career working with her husband with McNeal & Company, CPAs and McNeal Wealth Management, a financial fiduciary services business.
She always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so she started S&M Projects, LLC where her firm rehabbed property and purchased rental property in Tipton. Susan was a founding member of the Tipton Main Street Association and served as the volunteer treasurer from inception as well as serving on the board of directors, design committee and the ‘Tis the Season celebration each December. Susan and her husband created an endowment fund for the benefit of the Tipton Main Street Association, Inc. in 2018.
Susan enjoyed photography, decorating, the Indiana Pacers, gardening and volunteering but most of all being with her grandchildren and her husband.
Susan is survived by her husband Max K. McNeal; children Leslie S. Miller, Brian T. Jones, Michael C. Jones, a stepson Michael A. McNeal and wife Dawn M. Antcliff-McNeal; grandchildren Carley M. Miller, Mya D. Jones, Nathan W. Jones, Alex M. McNeal and Grace M. McNeal, a sister Marlene M. Cunningham-Walters, and a deceased brother Donald G. Cunningham. Also surviving are three nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, at the Young-Nichols Funeral Home located at 216 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon on December 29, at the First Presbyterian Church of Tipton located at 200 West Jefferson Street in Tipton.
