Steven D. Powell

Steven D. Powell, 46 of Tipton died at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.  Steve was born in Tipton on October 2, 1972 to Rex A. & Jo Anna (Weber) Powell.  On September 12, 1998 he married Shelly L. Marusik and she survives.  Steve had lived in Milwaukee from 1997-2000.

Steve was a Quality Control Supervisor at Chrysler and had worked there 18 years.  He also worked for Indiana Bikecab.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Elks and the Knights of Columbus.  Steve graduated from Tipton High School in 1991 and Purdue University in 1995 where he played football for the Boilermakers.  He was a member of the John Purdue Club.

Biking, weight-lifting and football were his passions.  He had also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Steve had coached Track & Field and Football at Tipton High School and was very youth-oriented.  He had been a member of the Tipton Community Theater.

Survivors besides his wife Shelly include three children, Michael and wife Anne, Kokomo and Madison and Andrew Powell, both at home; three grandchildren, Zakk, Jillian and Adeline; his parents, Jo Anna Powell, Tipton and Rex Powell and wife Nancy, Atlanta; two brothers, Don Powell and wife Kirsten, Frankfort, Illinois and Thomas Powell and wife Donna, Lenexa, Kansas; four step-sisters, Stephanie Dell and husband Kyle, Janelle Bradford and husband Travis, Tia Ley and Cindy Mills.

Steve is also survived by his extended family; sister-in-law Beth Marusik and husband Tim, Shelly’s grandmother Rosemary Marusik, aunts and uncles Mindy Overdorf and husband Bruce, Denny Weber and wife Janet, Joey Marusik and wife Bethany and Anne Westfahl and husband Dennis.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louie & Helen Weber, Luther & Margaret Powell and Shelly’s grandfather, Joe Marusik.

The funeral mass for Steve will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 335 Mill Street, Tipton, with Rev. Dennis Goth presiding and burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, also at the church, with a Wake Service starting at 7:00 p.m. and Rosary to follow.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to an education fund for his children in care of Encompass Credit Union, 201 N. Main Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
