Stephen E. Lagrave

Stephen E. LaGraveStephen Eugene LaGrave, 70 of Tipton died at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his residence.  He was born December 6, 1945 in Indianapolis to Edward Hamilton & Betty Jean (Holt) LaGrave.Steve was a college professor having taught at IUPUI in Indianapolis and Ivy Tech in Kokomo.  He taught business and economics.  Steve had attended Broadripple High School.  He was a member of Mensa and in 1993-94 he was named Teacher of the Year by Ivy Tech.  He loved music and sports.  Steve played the guitar and once jammed with John Lennon and Paul McCartney in Germany before they formed the Beatles.  He had served in the U.S. Army in Europe.Stephen is survived by one son, Brian LaGrave, Moulton, Alabama and one daughter, Stephanie LaGrave, Louisville, Kentucky; three brothers and one sister, Edward LaGrave and wife Mercy, Mobile, Alabama, Michael LaGrave, Indianapolis, Cheryl Hanson, Hoover, Alabama and Bob Jeffries and wife Diana, Indianapolis; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Stephen's funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Chaplain Cindy Alte presiding and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton with military honors.  Visitation will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.Memorial contributions in Stephen's honor may be made to Ivy Tech - Kokomo, 1815 E Morgan St, Kokomo, Indiana, 46901.
