Robert E. "Bob" Hawkins, 94 of Tipton died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton. He was born June 11, 1918 in Kempton to Elza & Edith (Alderson) Hawkins. On October 2, 1944 he married Martha Orr and she survives.
He retired from Continental Steel in 1980. Bob was a member of Kempton Christian Church, the American Legion and was a 1936 graduate of Kempton High School. He served in the Army Air Corps from January 1942 – December 1945.
Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Phillip Hawkins and wife Peggy, Kokomo, Dale Hawkins and wife Nancy, Kokomo and Lyle Hawkins and wife Jacky, Rochester; one sister, Juanita Orr, Tipton and one brother, Jim Hawkins, Evansville; one granddaughter, Sherry Matlock and husband Shane; one great-grandson, Peyton Matlock.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Godwin and two brothers, Von Hawkins and Ralph Hawkins.
Bob's funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Wik presiding. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
