Phyllis Vance Ling, 95 of Sarasota, Florida died on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Beneva Lakes Healthcare and Rehab Center in Sarasota. She was born in Chicago on December 7, 1917 to John "Jack" & Henrietta (Haberichter) Crossman. Phyllis had lived in Indianapolis from 1946-1960 and in Richmond from 1960-2004 when she then moved to Sarasota. She married Donald Roby Vance on May 31, 1941 and he preceded her in death on April 2, 1983. She then married John F. Ling on January 13, 1990 and he died on January 3, 1994.
Phyllis was a homemaker and a graduate of Purdue University. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and active in the alumni group. She was a member of the Irvington Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis while living there and the First Presbyterian Church in Richmond while living in Richmond.
Phyllis enjoyed playing bridge and was a Master Points Duplicate Bridge player. While living in Richmond she was a member of the Reid Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Elks Ladies Golf, and Forest Hills Ladies Golf.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Holmes and husband Robert, Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Jill Buroker, Redlands, California and Pam Ely and husband Thomas, Bridgewater, New Jersey; five grandchildren, Jamison Munden and wife Melinda, Sophie T. Buroker, Richard Ely and wife Tracy, Theodore Ely and Elizabeth Ely; four great-grandsons, Jackson and Lucas Munden and Thomas and Ryan Ely. Phyllis was preceded in death by one brother, John Hilton Crossman.
Funeral services for Phyllis will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5 at Noblesville, Indiana's First Presbyterian Church, 1207 Conner Street, Noblesville, with Rev. David Layman presiding. Burial will follow in Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
