Phillip E. Smith

Phillip E. SmithPhillip E. Smith, 71 of Tipton died at 6:06 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Tipton Hospital.  He was born on November 8, 1937 to Bernard and Inez (Burgan) Smith.  He married Nancy Graf on February 15, 1997 and she survives.Phil was an owner/operator at Dart Transit for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges in Tipton, a member of West Street Christian Church and attended Rock Prairie Church.  Phil was a 1955 graduate of Prairie High School and attended Indiana University.He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children Gary & wife Terri Smith, Tipton, Melissa Smith, Tipton; Renee and husband Dan Hobbs, Wichita, Kansas; and Bryan and wife Heather Baden, Tipton.  His grandchildren include, Alycia and Amy Smith, Evan Cripe and Jozee Baden.Funeral services will be held  at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding.  Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be Wednesday April 22, 2009 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Tipton Lions Club, 1003 N.
