Paul W. Osler, 95, of Carmel, IN passed away July 21, 2017. He was born in Tipton County, IN on September 6, 1921, son of Roy and Ethel Hoffman Osler.
Paul was a 1938 graduate of Tipton High School. He married his wife, Elnora (Brunson) Osler of Frankfort, IN, on December 14, 1940. They moved for a short time to Bronson, MI. Returning to Indiana in 1952, Paul was an accountant for P.R. Mallory, first in Frankfort, then transferring to the Indianapolis offices in 1954, until retiring in 1977. In 1977, Paul became Tipton City Utilities Manager, through 1982. He helped establish accounting procedure for the new Indiana Municipal Power Agency (IMPA), then becoming Executive Director of IMPA’s membership association, Indiana Municipal Electric Association (IMEA), retiring in 1985, but continuing on its board until 2001. During the time with IMEA, Paul served on several national association committees, allowing Paul and Elnora to travel a lot.
On the side, “Mister O” kept the corporate books for Hedlund’s Ace Hardware in Indianapolis from 1954 to shortly before his death.
Paul was a member of the Scottish Rite, Carmel Clay Historical Society as well as being a charter member of the Carmel Dads’ Club. Paul was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash in 2003 by Governor Frank O’Bannon.
Spending time with family was Paul’s greatest joy in life. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson coach summer basketball. Paul was proud of his son, John’s 25 year association with the Indianapolis Colts and the Colts Radio Network. Of course, Paul was an avid fan of Colts Football.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, John J. Osler.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 76 years Elnora Brunson Osler; daughter, Cathie Osler Reamer; son, John R. Osler and grandson, Jim Reamer, all of Carmel and Terry Coy of Tipton, son of Paul’s brother, John.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 4 pm in Young Nichols Funeral Home, 216 West Jefferson Street, Tipton, IN with a Celebration of Life service following at 6 pm.
Also, on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 4 pm family and friends will gather in Carmel Christian Church, of which Paul was a long time member, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul, may be given to Carmel Christian Church, 463 East Main Street, Carmel, IN 46032 and Carmel Clay Historical Society, 211 1st St SW, Carmel, IN 46032. Envelopes will be available at the service.
