Paul E. Smith

Paul E. “Smitty” Smith, 94 of Tipton died on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at IU Health Tipton Hospital.  Over the years Paul also lived in Anderson and Atlanta, Indiana.  He was born on November 24, 1927 in Tipton to Floyd H. & Edith L. (Aldridge) Smith.

Paul worked for the State of Indiana in the Highway Department for several years.  He was also a farmer and loved tending to the land.  Paul graduated from Jackson Central High School Class of 1946.  He could be found most mornings at Wheeler’s Truck Stop trading stories and enjoying his morning coffee.  On Thursday nights he could always be found at the Strawtown Auction Barn looking at all the items and treasures people were auctioning and selling.  Paul loved animals especially his dogs and parrot “Sunny”.

He is survived by his nieces, a sister-in-law Marcia Smith of Tipton, and the many lifelong friends he has made throughout the years.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma June Wright and a brother, William Smith.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 27 at the Tetersburg Cemetery with Rev. Harvey McDaniel presiding, burial to follow.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.
