Orvis Earlin Carter, Jr. 73 of Kempton died at 8:25 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1939 in Sumner County, Tennessee to Orvis Earlin Carter, Sr. and Naoma Francis (Frost) Carter. He married Kathleen P. Jones and she survives.
Earlin worked at Steel Parts for 35 years, retiring as a foreman in 1999. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton and had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957- 1961.
Survivors besides his wife include three children, Channing J. Carter and wife Debra, Tipton, Sheila Randall and husband Carl, Lafayette, Shelley Carter, Kempton; two sisters, Nell Jean Lowery, Kokomo and Sue Tidler, Rotonda West, Florida; one brother, Jim Carter, Kokomo; six grandchildren, Scot Earle, Quintin, Kendall and Chloe Carter, Mitchell and Christian Randall.
Earlin was preceded in death by one daughter, Stacey (Carter) Denham and one sister, Anna Friend.
Cremation was the chosen form of disposition. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the mass.
