Michael Don Hinds

Michael Don Hinds 76 of Windfall died Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on July 4, 1948 to Don Henry and Harriett Helen (Emehiser) Hinds. On November 13, 1971, he married the love of his life, Melanie Jane “Janie” VanHorn. They spent 52 years together until her death in 2023.

Mike was a salt of the earth kind of guy. Most people would know him as the manager of the Farm Bureau Fertilizer plant in Sharpsville. Mike was a quiet observer and good listener which allowed him to provide good advice on many issues. He was a member of the West Street Christian Church. Through his wife and daughter, he was involved with the 4-H Fair where he served on the Fair Board for several years. Mike enjoyed watching the I.U. Basketball games and supporting the Hoosiers. He was an Army soldier, proudly serving his country in Viet Nam. Mike had a strong commitment to family. He greatly loved his wife, daughter and grandchildren and would spend countless hours with them and their activities.

Survivors include his daughter Andee Sznewajs and husband Matt of Edina, Minnesota; grandchildren Sophia, Will and Ben, and a brother-in-law Dick Bowlby. He was preceded in death by his siblings Sherry Gasho, Emalie Bowlby, David Hinds, Karen Kilfoil and George Hinds.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Cass Sparks presiding. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall.
