Michael Doran Hoover, 73 of Indianapolis and formerly of Tipton died at 10:41 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Mike was born on December 23, 1945 in Elwood to Carmel Wayne & Virginia Ruth (Mitchell) Hoover.
He graduated from Tipton High School in 1964, attended Drake University for one year and then transferred to Purdue University, graduating in 1971.
Mike was administrator of Youth Employment Programs, Ivy Tech, local programs; Indiana Office of Occupational Development; CTB McGraw-Hill Testing. For the past several years he had been attending St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Indianapolis where he sang in the choir as a Tenor II. He was a member of West Street Christian Church where he served as Deacon and sang in the Chancel Choir.
Mike was a member of the International Barbershop Harmony Society for 28 years. He loved and lived for music being second only to God’s greatest gift.
Michael loved trees – he would call them “God’s natural Cathedrals”. He loved his Purdue Boilermaker football and basketball teams. He was integral in maintaining a tightly knit association with his classmates/gang for 50 years. He had a remarkable memory, remembering old and new friends; some say he never met a stranger.
Mike is survived by two sisters and one brother, Myra Arlene Hoover, Indianapolis, Rick A. Hoover, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Michele Hoover, Tipton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Farrell and Gary Hoover along with his parents.
Mike’s funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at West Street Christian Church with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Visitation will also be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Young-Nichols Funeral Home to help the family with funeral expenses.
