Max Hunt Basey

July 12, 1922 — November 13, 2017

Max Hunt Basey passed away in peace in Atlanta, Indiana on Monday, November 13, 2017.

Born July 12, 1922 in Tipton, Indiana to Blanche and Ralph Basey, he graduated from Tipton High School in 1942. He married Ruth Dunning September 28, 1945 and she survives.  His siblings Martha Jane Dunning and Donald Wayne Basey, grandson Alex Brown and brother-in-laws Radford and Charles Dunning preceded him in death.

Max was a lifelong resident of the Tipton area. He considered farming to be his preferred occupation and did so for about 20 years.  Then he began working at the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo and retired as an Inspector in July, 1982.

Max was a 4-H Leader in Sheridan for several years and was an avid horseman. In particular, he loved to show and trail ride Tennessee Walking horses and passed along this hobby to his daughter. Max also enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the US, especially in National Parks such as Yellowstone and winters spent in Ft. Meyers, Florida.  Later in life he spent his free time watching sporting events including Purdue basketball, Pacers basketball and Colts games.

But most of all, Max was a one-of-a-kind and beloved father to daughters Carolyn Brown and LouAnn Cash, grandfather to  Alex and Tony Brown and Michelle Espinoza, great-grandfather to six and uncle to many.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to East Union Christian Church, 1711 E 296th Street, Atlanta, Indiana, 46031.
