Mary Lou Taylor, 82 of Tipton, died at 4:44 a.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at IU Health Tipton Hospital. She was born May 29, 1934 in Henryville, Indiana to Max Allison & Sadie Ellen (Graff) McClain. Mary Lou married the love of her life, Robert A. “Bob” Taylor on December 20, 1952 and he preceded her in death on June 27, 2016.
Mary Lou was a 1952 graduate of Austin High School and was the honored Queen of Job’s Daughters. She and Bob moved to Tipton in 1957 where she was Welcome Wagon Hostess. She was an active member of West Street Christian Church where she attended the R&R Sunday school class, served on various committees and was a past deacon & elder emeritus.
Mary Lou was a volunteer at Tipton County Memorial Hospital starting in 1984 and in 2010 she was recognized for 26 years and 3000 hours of volunteer service. She was also a past member of the Tipton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she assisted with many projects.
She was a former member of Tipton Kiwanis Club, Phi Beta Psi Sorority-Associate II Chapter, Republican Women, Friends of the Library and Embroidery Circle. Mary Lou was the former Queen Mum of the Nifty Red Hat Mamas. She enjoyed playing bridge, watching the Colts and IU basketball, and decorating her home. She loved her church, helping her older friends when they needed her and living in Tipton for over 60 years.
Mary Lou loved her family and cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Mary Lou is survived by three children, LuAnn Conaway and husband Bob, Brian Taylor and wife Mary Jane, and Lori Taylor; five grandchildren, Brandon Conaway, Aaron Conaway, Carey Phifer, Abby Crume and Daniel Taylor; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Donald Taylor and wife Sally, and one sister-in-law, Dixie Lou Souder and husband Norman.
Funeral services for Mary Lou will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28 at the West Street Christian Church with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m., also at the church. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
