Mary Ann Hoover

Mary Ann Hoover, 93 of Tipton died at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton.  She was born in Bluffton, Indiana on January 14, 1924 to Homer & Anna (Beeler) Schlagenhauf.  On August 2, 1942 she married Gene Hoover and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1990.

Mary Ann graduated from Bluffton High School in 1942 and retired from Pioneer Hi-Bred as a bookkeeper.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Tipton and Farm Bureau Inc.  Mary Ann was a past president of the Plum Grove Home Extension Club; she also served other various officer positions in the club.  She was past member of New Hope Church, where she played the piano and she was also a past member of First Congregational Christian UCC in Kokomo.

She is survived by six children, Hollie Hart and husband James, Spring Hill, Tennessee, LaMona Hoover, Indianapolis, Tim Hoover and wife Paulette, Tipton, Greg Hoover and wife Carol, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Trudy McConnell and husband Keith, Bloomington, Gayle Shipman and husband Jim, Booneville, Indiana; a son-in-law, Dave Hurt and wife Laurie, Swartz Creek, Michigan; two brothers, George Schlagenhauf and wife Marlene, Bluffton, Indiana, Alan Schlagenhauf and wife Lori, Bluffton, Indiana; a sister, Beth Myer and husband Larry, Greentown; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Gene Ann Hurt, Cathy Pierce, Lenna Burns; a sister, June Yager; and a grandson.

Mary Ann’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23 at First Presbyterian Church, Tipton with Pastor Mae Leech presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a memorial service by the Plum Grove Home Extension Club at 5:00 p.m. There will also be visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church.
