Marilyn S. Fernung, 79 of Tipton died at her daughter’s residence in Kokomo at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018. She was born in Tipton County on April 29, 1938 to Paul R. & Sarah (Mundell) Cummins. On June 25, 1955 she married Richard “Dick” Fernung and he survives.
Marilyn was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Kokomo. She was involved in women’s bible study groups. Marilyn was a true farmer’s wife as she supported her husband in any way needed on the farm. She worked at Farmers Loan & Trust for many years. Marilyn was the Tipton Hospital gift shop manager for 15 years and served in different positions for the Hospital Auxiliary Board. She was an avid advocate for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dick; two children, Scott Fernung and wife Cindy, Tipton, and Cindy Lundin and husband Brian, Kokomo; seven grandchildren, Ashley Berg and husband Josh, Lindsay Reynolds and husband Brandon, Adam Fernung and wife Jenny, Ryan Fernung and wife Kristina, Nathaniel Lundin, Melody Lundin, and Zachary Lundin and wife Adrienne; 12 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Autumn, Shelby, Oliver, Alexis, Aiden, Maysie, Brayden, Jazmine, and Anthony.
Marilyn was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Gaiser; brothers, Jack Cummins and Mike Cummins; sisters, LaGretta Jones and Mona Cyphers; half-brothers, Cash Cummins and Ray Cummins; half-sister, Wanda Hawkins.
Marilyn’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor David Leeder presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Visitation will also be on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
