Margaret J. Gossard, 102 of Tipton died at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at her residence. She was born on September 13, 1914 in Linton, Indiana to Cletus & Hettie (John) Gill. On June 24, 1939 she married Meredith B. Gossard, M.D. and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1994. The couple was married in St. John Catholic Church, Indianapolis with Father Tom Scecina, a classmate of Margaret’s from Linton High School, presiding.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Margaret graduated from IU School of Nursing in 1937, and belonged to the nursing honorary-Sigma Theta Tau. She enjoyed reading, oil painting, and traveling with her family to many different countries.
Margaret was a survivor of Tetanus at the age of 12 before the vaccine was available. The couple spent five years during World War II at Fort Benning, Georgia. Margaret used her nursing skills while care giving for her father, mother, sister, and husband at home over 20 yrs.
She is survived by two sons, Jack Gossard, M.D. and wife Robin, Boulder, Colorado, Bill Gossard, Cicero; two daughters, Jane Crouch and husband Dan, Lisle, Illinois, Kathryn Turner, Tipton; a sister, Ann Cummins, Greenwood, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Megan Adams, Holly Everson, Kathleen Rebro, Brad Gossard, Wendy Gleckler,Whitney Crouch, Kevin Crouch, Sara Lesko; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Gill and a grandson, Danny Crouch.
A funeral mass for Margaret will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton with Rev. Dennis Goth presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. There will be visitation at the church on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
