"Peg" Ashley,
88 of Tipton passed away at 4:05 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at
Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton from complications from the flu.
She was the widow of Norman R. Ashley who proceeded her in death on
Jan. 29, 2011.Born March
29, 1926, in Gary to Glen and Thelma Stouder, who later moved to
Goldsmith, Indiana, she married Norman on May 19, 1946. Mrs.
Ashley formerly worked for Eli Lily Co. in Indianapolis and as a
buyer for J.C. Penney and Wards department stores in Gary.Long time
RVers, the couple traveled North America for more than 30 years,
primarily in an Airstream travel trailer, and were members of the
Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI).They moved
to Ft. Myers, Florida, in 1980 after Norman's retirement and lived
there until 2009 when they returned to Tipton due to ill health. In
between, they spent many summers in Tipton County.An avid
reader and bridge player, Mrs. Ashley also played tennis and golf.
She was most proud of a hole-in-one she scored on the fourth hole at
Tipton Golf Course.She was a
resident of Miller's Merry Manor since January 2011.Survivors
include three sons, Robert A. Ashley and James D. (Nancy) Ashley,
both of Tipton; and Gerald W. (Stephanie) Ashley, Crown Point,
Indiana; and two daughters, Norma J. (Robert) Colosimo, Ft. Myers,
Florida.; and Nancy (Kenneth) Corbeille, Lake Station, Indiana; 10
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.A
nondenominational memorial
service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5 at
Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton. Burial will be in Tetersburg
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon - 2:00 p.m.
