Linda Kay Whelchel

Linda Kay Whelchel, 75 of Tipton died at 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. She was born September 27, 1938 in Prairie Township to Hollis F. and Margie (Cartwright) Silence. On June 25, 1960 she married Phil O. Whelchel and he survives.

Linda worked for the Tipton County Circuit Court retiring in 2002. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Tri Kappa, Mustard Seed Ladies, and Ladies Elks bowling team. She loved her home where she had lived for the past 48 years with her husband. Linda loved watching the birds in her back yard that she and Phil feed. She also loved attending the grandkids' sporting events, playing cards, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Phil; two daughters, Marla Vandevender and husband David, Tipton, Karen Francis and husband David, Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cody and Megan Vandevender; five brothers, William Silence, Fairfield, Tennessee, Allen Silence and wife Omi, Kokomo, Robert Silence, Kokomo, Leon Silence and wife Colette, Tipton, Cleon Silence and wife Diane, Hot Springs, Arkansas: three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay Whelchel, Bradenton, Florida, Jean Moon, Kokomo, and Jill Whelchel, Tipton. Linda was preceded in death by a brother, Fredrick J. Silence, a sister-in-law, Kay Silence, and a brother-in-law, Jim Whelchel.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Lawson presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
