Judith Kay “Judy” Ripberger, 77 of Tipton went to be with the Lord at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tipton on June 27, 1941 to the late Chester & Ruby (Coppock) Day. On August 29, 1959 Judy married her high school sweetheart, Edward Ripberger. They were married for almost 59 years and were blessed with four children.
Judy was loved by all who knew her. She had a great sense of humor and filled everyone’s heart with love and laughter. She was a generous and compassionate soul. Judy was a Rural Route Carrier for the Tipton Post Office for 30 years (Rural Route #2). She loved her job – even through the rain, snow, ice and flat tires. Before that she worked for Pioneer for four years.
Judy was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton. She volunteered with many organizations and events over the years. She served on the Tipton County 4-H Council, Tipton County Fair Board and helped with many school and church functions. She was a graduate of Tipton High School, Class of 1959. Judy enjoyed the many years she and Ed spent at their vacation house in Florida. She enjoyed traveling, going to the movies, reading, dancing, Disney World, westerns, going out to eat and baking. Homemade pizza, peanut butter fudge and cookies were her favorites.
Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandma who was dedicated to her children, grandchildren and husband and was dearly loved by all.
She is survived by her husband Ed; their four children, all of Tipton, Tim Ripberger and friend Debbie Byers, Theresa Treadway, Tom Ripberger and wife Merilee, Tina Colbert and husband Dave. Grandchildren include Carrie Salinas, Kyle Off and wife Brittani, Kate Houston, Kelly Trembacki and husband Brad, Alex Ripberger, Max Ripberger, Casey Colbert and wife Mallory, Cody Colbert, Jessica Ripberger, Kyle Colbert, Jacob Ripberger, Conner Treadway, Cassidy Colbert and Joni Ripberger. Judy was also blessed by nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie Mattix of Hobart. She is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phil Ripberger, Martina Quillen, Mike & Betty Ripberger and Steve & Cheryl Ripberger and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass for Judy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Goth presiding. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:00 p.m.
