Josephine E. (Barr) HarlanJosephine E. (Barr) Harlan, 93, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan died Monday, February 9, 2009.  She was born July 15, 1915 in the Barr family home on Normanda Pike near Goldsmith, Indiana to Lon & Lela (Angstadt) Barr; the Barr family being early pioneer settlers of Tipton County. She married Jacob “Dee” Harlan of Lebanon, Indiana in 1937 and he died in May 1957.Mrs. Harlan attended Goldsmith schools graduating from Goldsmith High School in 1933.  After high school she attended nursing school graduating from St. Margaret School of Nursing , Hammond, Indiana, in 1936. Josephine had a passion for nursing which was reflected in her life long dedication to nursing, quality patient care, compassion to her patients, respect for her coworkers and her pursuit of nursing excellence. She retired from Pontiac General Hospital in 1983 completing over 37 years of service, last serving as  House Director.Preceding her in death were her husband Jacob “Dee” Harlan, and brothers Don, Bob, and Art Barr.  Surviving relatives are nephews Alan “Gale” Barr, Windfall, and Rick Barr, Avon and niece Sharon Barr Alley, Brownsburg.Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17,  and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.  An Eastern Star Memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by a family-led remembrance service. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton next to her beloved husband. Memorial contributions may be made to Catherine McAuley Clinic, c/o St. Margaret Hospital, Development Office, 5454 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, Indiana 46320 or to Rosary Chapter #66 O.E.S. 4942 E. SR 28, Tipton, Indiana 46072.
