Jerry Overdorf

Jerry OverdorfJerry Overdorf, 74 of Tipton went home to be with his Lord at 4:25 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton.  He was born November 23, 1936 in Tipton to Clyde E. & Mary E. (McLaughlin) Overdorf.  On December 6, 1958 he married Brenda Kay Jones and she survives.He was a farmer and had formerly worked at FMC and his father's Chrysler dealership, Overdorf Motors.  Jerry had also worked on building maintenance for the West Street Christian Church, the First Presbyterian Church and TDS Telecom.Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tipton where he was an Elder, Deacon and sang in the choir.  He had served as the captain for the Overdorf Team for Relay for Life as well as volunteering for Caregiver Companion and Meals on Wheels.Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Julie Knight and husband Michael, Tipton, Amy Friend and husband Sam, Tipton, and Angie Dane and husband Kevin, Noblesville; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Knight, Madison Knight, Breanna Knight, Shawn Friend, Kayla Friend, Noah Dane, Jacob Dane and Rachel Dane; one great-grandson Grayson Harlow.Jerry is also survived by two brothers, Walt Overdorf and wife Darlene, Cicero and Bruce Overdorf and wife Mindy, Tipton; one sister, Becky Carson and husband Erron, Glidden, Wisconsin; one sister-in-law, Luanne Overdorf, Tipton and one brother-in-law, Don Whisler, Tipton.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Overdorf and one sister, Ann Whisler.Jerry's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tipton with Rev. Linda Philabaun presiding.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to Tipton County Relay for Life, 2723 Albright Road, Kokomo, Indiana, 46902; the Alzheimer's Association, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46209; or the Open Door Fund at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 W.
