Jerry D. Stoops

Jerry D. StoopsJerry D. Stoops, 79 of North Carolina and formerly of Tipton, Indiana died Friday, May 8, 2015 in Hickory, North Carolina.  He was born November 29, 1935 in Prairie Township of Tipton County to Roscoe & Gladys (Coe) Stoops.  Jerry had lived in Tipton for 66 years and Lima, Ohio for 6 years before moving to North Carolina.  On June 4, 1955 he married his true love, Esther L. Spaulding and she survives.Jerry dedicated his life to his family, farming and raising livestock. He was an Assistant Vice-President at 1st Federal Savings & Loan in Kokomo, retiring in 1995.  He also served on the Tipton County Council for nine years and as a Tipton County Commissioner for four years.Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Jill Volmer and husband Paul, New Albany, Indiana, Nancy Russell and husband Herman, Las Vegas, Nevada and Beverly Graham and husband Eric, Hickory; eight grandchildren, Esther & Hannah Volmer, Jacob & Katrina Russell, Eli, Madeline, Carson and Aliza Graham.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Stoops and one sister, Wilma L. McCarty.Funeral services for Jerry will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Carr presiding and burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 1:00 until the time of the service on Wednesday.  There will also be a memorial service in Hickory on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 10401 N Meridian St # 150, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46290.
