Jerome "Jerry" SchmittJerome "Jerry" Schmitt, 71, Tipton died at 5:40 A.M. Monday, October 4, 2010 at Tipton Hospital.  He was born January 31, 1939 in Elwood to George & Beulah (Coe) Schmitt.  On July 28, 1962 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Miller and she survives.He retired in 1995 from Delco Remy after 30 years of service.  Jerry was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton Moose, Tipton American Legion, Alexandria Eagles, and Tipton High School Class of 1957.  He served in the U.S. Navy.  Jerry loved his family, friends, golf, and winters in Florida.Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Debby and husband Steve Netherton, Tipton; two grandsons, Brandon and Drew Netherton; a sister, Madonna "Donna" and husband Michael A. Phillips, Tipton; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.Jerry was preceded in death by one brother, Mike Schmitt.His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding.  Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Tipton, with military honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 4:00 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to Tipton County Relay for Life, 2723 S.
