Jeffrey L. Latchaw, age 77 was born on June 23, 1944 in Alexandria to Irvin and Martha Latchaw. He died of natural causes in his home with his beloved dog beside him on December 11, 2021.
Jeff graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School in 1962. While in high school he was an outstanding athlete excelling in football, basketball and track. He furthered his education at his beloved Purdue University majoring in statistics at the Krannert School of business. At one point in his educational journey he co-oped with Delco Remy, a division of General Motors located in Anderson, Indiana.
Jeff loved big cities so following his college graduation he moved to Chicago where he lived life to the fullest. The stories that he would tell were amazing, funny, and sometimes a bit scary. His first job in Chicago was as Director of College Relations of 1st National Bank of Chicago. This job allowed him to travel all over the United States. Following this endeavor Jeff spent the next eleven years as a Territory Manager for A-dec, a very large dental equipment
company.
At this point in his life Jeff decided to return back home to his roots and his family. During this time Jeff spent several years in Tipton before returning to Alexandria where he lived in the home he was actually born in. Jeff loved his family, his dogs, Purdue and fast cars. The stories he could tell about each of these or any other subject were often funny, sweet, or sometimes downright scary. He never forgot a detail or a date about anything. These stories were amazing. No one ever wanted to play Trivial Pursuit with him because he ALWAYS won no matter what the subject matter.
Jeff loved each and every one of his dogs. Over the years they became his furry family. Each one, Prince, Ted, and Bagel were like his children and he treated them as such. He rarely traveled anywhere without his dog with him.
At Purdue he lived a very full and fun life. While there he was the social director of the Beta Theta Pi house where he was a member. Throwing a great party was an easy task for Jeff. Throughout Jeff’s life, he loved to talk Purdue sports, and others quickly learned that winning an argument wasn’t possible.
Jeff had a love of fast cars – really fast cars. He owned some beauties over his lifetime including a Porsche that he bought in Europe.
Although Jeff never married he loved his family starting with his parents all the way down to his great nephews and nieces. He loved hearing about all of the events that any one of them was in and constantly commented on Facebook about their achievements. On Saturday mornings after a Tipton football game his nephew Aaron would call him and have a long conversation about the game the night before that Aaron had coached. Those conversations will be dearly missed next year.
Jeff is survived by his sister Sally Tolle and husband Mike of Tipton, nephew Aaron Tolle and wife Elizabeth of Tipton, nephew Andrew Tolle of Westfield, niece Stacy Hare and husband Jason of Tipton, great nephews Griffin Hare, Gavin Hare, Aden Tolle , and Quinn Tolle all of Tipton and Finnian Tolle of Westfield and great nieces Ella Hare of Tipton and Sydney Tolle of Westfield.
A memorial service for Jeff is being planned for a later date. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting Jeff’s family with his funeral arrangements.
