Jean Carr, 94 of Tipton and formerly of North Vernon died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born in Madison County, Indiana on May 21, 1918 to Ray & Lue (Richwine) Gage. On February 14, 1940 she married James Carr and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2000.
She retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital in 1980 where she was an x-ray technician. Jean was an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She was also a resident there for nine years. Jean was a member of the Eastern Star and an active community member in North Vernon where she lived for fifty years. She was an avid baker and seamstress with quilting being her passion. Jean was a member of several community quilting clubs.
She is survived by two children, J. Bruce Carr M.D. and wife Charlotte, Columbus, Georgia, Ann Miller and husband Jack, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Thad Miller and wife Paige, Zach Miller and wife Emily, Abigail M. Dickerson and husband Matt, Alisa Carr, Suzanne Newton, Nathan Carr, Jenny Carr, Jake Carr, and Gage Carr; 15 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Ila Jean Gage, Aroma, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Gage and Bruce Gage and one sister, Barbara Gage.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a wake service at 4:00 p.m.
