Jean Alice Basey

Jean Alice Basey, 81, of Tipton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 12, 2025, at The Waters of Tipton.

Jean was born on June 17, 1943, in Tipton to James Thomas Horton and Edith (Burris) Horton. On August 20, 1960, she married the love of her life, Donald W. Basey. Together, they shared over five decades of marriage and created a lifetime of memories before Donald’s passing in 2015.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Many in the Tipton community fondly remember her years spent working and later managing the cafeteria at Tipton Middle School, a position she held dear well into retirement.

Outside of her work, Jean found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved going for walks, working on puzzles, and settling in to enjoy the Hallmark Channel. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed.

That legacy is left to be carried on by her loving children: Donna (Doug) Michel, Kevin Basey, and Gary (Adriana) Basey. She was a proud grandmother to Stephen (Mallory) Michel, Amber (Kirk) Tidler, Brittney McLearran, Nicholas Basey, Kierstan Basey, Jon Basey, and Katie Basey. She was also blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren in Cora, Audra, and Della Michel; Evander, Lennox, and Conlin Tidler; and George McLearran.

Jean is reunited in peace with her beloved husband Donald, her parents, and her siblings: Myron "Mike," Jim, and Bill Horton; Lenore Bower; Betty Dane; Beverly Bates; and LaVeda Fuson, and her daughter-in-law Teresa Basey

She will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Hamilton County in a private family service. The staff of Young-Nichols Funeral Home would like to thank the family of Jean Basey for honoring us with her care.
