James Lonell Atchley

December 21, 1927 — May 9, 2018

James Lonell Atchley, 90 of Kempton, died at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.  He was born on December 21, 1927 in Clay County, Tennessee to Luke and Nardie (Butler) Atchley.  On August 11, 1950 he married Jean Elizabeth Honeas and she survives.

James was a lifelong farmer and worked at Delco Remy in Anderson for 33 years in quality control before retiring on April 1, 1981.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows Club.  His hobbies included working in flowers, going to farm auctions and tractor shows.  James also raised hogs and went to many hog shows.  He was a WWII United States Army Veteran, serving from 1945-1949.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean; two daughters, Linda Weismiller and husband Paul. Tipton, Pamela Doke and husband Paul, Tipton; four siblings, Lonnie Atchley, Hillisburg, Indiana, Janie Straley, Florida, Liz Clark, Markle, Indiana, Will Atchley and wife Betty, Tipton; grandchildren include Lynn Ann Calloway and husband Tim and Paula McCord and husband Shaun all of Tipton, and great grandsons Camden and Conner Calloway and Cash and Cale McCord.  James has several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by five siblings, Lovell Small, Mattie Horton, Luke Lee Atchley, Mary Hensley, and Sharon Grimes.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. James Lee Thurston presiding.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Hamilton County, Indiana with Military Honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
