James L. “Jim” Meng

July 26, 1929 — November 18, 2018

James L. “Jim” Meng, 89 of Tipton, died at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.  Jim was born in Genoa, Ohio on July 26, 1929 to Louis J. & Caroline (Heinsohn) Meng.  He married Martha A. Protzman on September 14, 1957 and she survives.

Jim had worked at Oakes Manufacturing and later worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. as an Agricultural Engineer, retiring in 2009 after a 43 year career.  He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.  He was a past member of the Kiwanis, Rotary and Tipton Elks Lodge.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart.  Jim was a graduate of Genoa High School and The Ohio State University.

Survivors besides his wife Marty include four children, Timothy J. Meng, Ft. White, Florida, Mark D. Meng, Fishers, Mary A. Meng, Clive, Iowa and Emma L. Teyema, Fishers; one sister, Sr. Mary Damian, SND, Whitehouse, Ohio and one brother, Robert Meng and wife Marge, Genoa, Ohio.  Jim also has three grandchildren, Madison Gruel, Natalie Teyema and Darian Meng.

A funeral mass for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 335 Mill Street, Tipton with Rev. Dennis Goth presiding.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Wake and Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Building Fund at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
