Glen Eugene Heard of Raymond, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Allons, Tennessee January 16, 1950 to the late Clyde Puckett and Earnest Geraldine (Jones) Heard, his family relocated to Tipton County, Indiana after their farms were flooded by the TVA to create Dale Hollow Lake to supply water to the area.
He married Lynn Y. (Grimes) Heard of Marysville on December 29, 1971. Together they travelled the country with Irby Construction Company while he was a lineman building high voltage power lines. After their children were born, they decided to settle down in Union County. He continued line work with The Fishel Company before beginning a career with Honda of America, retiring in 2008. After retirement, he began building barns with several Amish crews. His last job was in July of this year.
He is survived by his son, Jason (Teri) Heard and their children Hunter (Emily), Walker (Meredith), Lincoln, Kennedy and McKinley, his daughter Jodi (Andy) Sheets and their children Shelby (Austin) and Gracie (Casey): Sisters Betty Hopkins, Ruth Turner and Ruby Stratton, along with several nieces and nephews.
His happiest moments were when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. To say he was proud of each of them is an understatement. He was preceded in death by brothers Don, Doug and Jim Heard.
Glen was always the first one to offer help wherever it was needed, especially for his friends and neighbors on Hoover Bault Road. He never wanted to be the center of attention ~ just wanted to get the job done without any fanfare. That was just the person he was, no frills, just plain and simple. He worked hard all his life and never complained. He fought hard to the very end, pushing himself up and standing on his own two feet the morning he passed. In his true style he never quit.
Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the wind to help the flowers grow. If you must bury something let it be my faults and weaknesses. If you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.
A Celebration of Life will take place on October 19, 2024 at the Union County Ohio Fairgrounds in the last barn he helped build. A short service will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by anyone who wishes to share stories of their memories of Glen.
