Gerald F. BarrGerald F. Barr,
87 of Tipton died at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his
residence. He was born May 17, 1926 in Tipton County to
Churchille Barr & Gladys (Illyes) Barr Logan. On November 7,
1948 he married Zoe Ann Myers and they had been married for 64
years.Gerald was a
farmer, substitute mail route carrier and had worked at Chrysler for
30 years, retiring in December, 1989. He was a member of the
Kemp United Methodist Church and had served on the Pastor/Parish
Relations Committee. He was the former Sunday School
Superintendant and Lay Leader at Hopewell Methodist Church. He belonged to
UAW Local 685, Austin Masonic Lodge #128 and the Scottish Rite.Gerald was a past
member of the Tipton Lions Club and the Rural Youth of Tipton
County. He was a 1944 graduate of Prairie High School where he
was the captain of the basketball team. He also played on the
Jeepsters basketball team. Gerald served in the U.S. Army
during WWII and was a member of the Tipton American Legion. He
was an enthusiastic Cubs fan.Survivors besides
his wife Zoe Ann include one son, Ron Barr and wife Regina, Tipton;
one daughter, Pam Tolle and husband Steve, Windfall; seven
grandchildren, Jamie Barr, Ryan Barr, Deena Dodd and husband Mike,
Tina Rhodes and husband Dustin, Barry Tolle and wife Amanda, Tracy
Bean and husband Jeremy and Matt Deckard and wife April.Gerald is also
survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Austin Barr, Kyle Williams,
Kaitlyn Williams, Hailey Williams, Courtney Everman, Dustin Rhodes,
Jr., Trout Rhodes, Mason Yeagley, McKenna Tolle, Madison Deckard,
Delanie Deckard and Abriella Deckard. He was preceded in death
by one brother, Eugene Barr.Funeral services
for Gerald will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25 at the Kemp
United Methodist Church, 228 N. Main Street, Tipton, with Rev. Phil
Collier presiding. Burial will follow in Normanda Cemetery
with military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Monday, and from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, all at the church.
A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Kemp United Methodist
Church. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
