It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Lee Causey on March 7, 2025 at 5:50 a.m. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer. Gary was a warrior, facing his illness with unwavering strength and dignity until the very end.
Gary was born to Roy & Anna (Finney) Causey on July 7, 1950. He graduated from Windfall High School home of the Dragons in 1969. After high school he was drafted in 1970 to the United States Army. He served his country bravely and honorably during the Vietnam War. Gary was a proud veteran. Gary and Debbie had attended every Howard County Vietnam Veteran Reunion. They were selected to be the very first life time members of the Howard County Vietnam Veteran Reunion. Gary was also an active Member of the Greentown American Legion Post #317.
Gary married Debbie Burns on January 2, 1992. He loved his family, IU basketball and wood working, especially when he was making special pieces for his family. Gary worked at Kokomo Chrysler Casting plant for 35 years where he made many lifelong friends. He was known for his kind heart, and his willingness to help anyone in need. Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and son.
He is survived by his mother, Anna Causey; wife Debbie Causey; siblings, Judy Mccain (George), Jimmy Causey (Jody), Lawernce Causey (Debbie), Michael Causey ( Marcia); daughters Tonya Davison (Pat), Wendy Stout (Marc); son, Sam Burns (Kellie); grandchildren, Colten (Maya), Dusty (Tara), Brittin (Shane), Levi (Lexi), Kaylynn, Chase, Kenzie, and Ciara; great-grandchildren, Axel, Rook, Blake, Brynleigh, Sladen, Noah,and Jax. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Roy Causey; mother & father in law, Dorothy and Walter Mendenhall.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measures.
Funeral services for Gary will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall with Military Honors conducted by the Greentown American Legion and the United States Army. Chaplin Terry Lindsey will be presiding over the service. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
