Ernest E. PowellErnest E. Powell, 88 of Tipton died at 6:47 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Tipton Hospital.  He was born February 2, 1922 in Tipton to Monroe and Geraldine (Frye) Powell.  On December 24, 1941 he married Margaret Tomlinson and she survives.Ernie worked for the Tipton Community School system for 27 years.  He retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1988.  He was a life-long farmer, retiring in 1978. Ernie attended Rock Prairie Baptist Church in Tipton, enjoyed bowling, was inducted into the Tipton Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003, and loved watching sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Survivors besides his wife Margaret include two daughters, Judy Colbert and husband Carl, Windfall, Jane Anderson, Tipton; two sons, Jim Powell and wife Annie, Tipton, Joe Powell and wife Kathy, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Cindy Bickford, Kevin Colbert, Mindy Colbert, Rick Powell, Jennifer Frodge, Scott Powell, Lori Seaman, Jessica Higginbotham, and Justin Anderson;14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isadore Powell and Larry Powell, both of Greentown; three sisters, Mereda Heflin, Ohio, Clara Henry, Greentown, Betty Duncan, Griffith, Indiana.Ernie had several special caregivers that took wonderful care of him.His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 16 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 6415 Castleway W. Drive, Suite 114, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46250.
