Emory James Hicks, 99 of Greentown, and formerly of Tipton, died at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown. He was born March 7, 1918 in Elwood to Reginald & Beatrice (Murray) Hicks. He married Marjory Tolle on August 10, 1944 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2005.
Emory had worked as a Technical Engineer in government civil service. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He had been a member of the New Salem Friends Church in Greentown and belonged to the Austin Masonic Lodge in Tipton as well as the OES in Greentown and Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.
Emory is survived by one son, James David Hicks and wife Linda, Indianapolis; sisters Betty Harting, Elwood, Rosemary Jones, Elwood, and Wilma Janes, Alexandria; one granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Hicks. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Emory was preceded in death by one brother, William Hicks and two sisters, Sarah Hancock and Beatrice Beeman.
Funeral services for Emory will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 5 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David Stout presiding. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall with military honors. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
