Elizabeth ‘Betty” Naden, 85 of Tipton, died at 3:09 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 27, 1936 in Lebanon, New Hampshire to William Chase & Pauline (Wilcox) Wheeler. Betty was married twice, she first married Vance Funkhouser on November 20, 1954 and then later on she married Robert Bruce Naden on June 6, 1979. Robert Naden preceded her in death on September 10, 1980.
Betty was a homemaker while her kids were young; later on she worked at Pioneer Seeds in Tipton. She finished out her working career in the office of Tipton Utilities where she would always greet the customers with her familiar smile and conversation. Betty was a life-member of the Whitestown American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she was also a past president. She was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Betty enjoyed the fellowship of the Tipton Coffee Girls. Betty was very active in the community; she volunteered many hours with the Tipton Hospital Pharmacy and was a yearly volunteer with the Tipton County Pork Festival.
Her talents were very apparent as she cooked meals for the family, canned during the harvest season, crocheted and made many counted cross stitch items. Betty truly enjoyed her role as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include children: William “Scott” Funkhouser and wife Lynda of Kokomo, Timothy Funkhouser of Zionsville, Glenn Funkhouser and husband Henry of Tipton, Marilyn Behrman of Bloomington, Susan Naden of Daytona Beach, Florida, James “Jim” Naden and wife Gale of Tipton and Joan Naden Clay and husband Colin of Fort Collins, Colorado. Betty has 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Owen “Dale” Funkhouser and his wife Nancy and a granddaughter Jill Behrman.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11 at Kemp United Methodist Church with Rev. Karla Elliott presiding. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. Masks are recommended. Inurnment at Fairview Cemetery will take place following the ceremony.
