Eldon G. SmithEldon G. Smith, 83, went to be with his Heavenly
Father on November 27, 2010 at 11:11 AM at Clarian North Medical
Center, in Carmel, Indiana. His entire family was with him as they
said their goodbyes. He had been in ill health since 2007. Born in
Howard County in 1927, Eldon was the son of Otho and Dorothy
(Simpson) Smith, both deceased. He married Tudy (Langley) Smith on
July 4, 1948 and she survives.Eldon was a farmer all of his life and retired in
1992. As the founder and president of Sharp-View Farms he enjoyed
farming more than anything else in life and even after retirement,
continued to work part-time with his son. He enjoyed winters in
Bonita Springs, Florida for nearly 40 years, fishing and relaxing
with his wife. In retirement, he especially enjoyed motor-sports,
specifically NASCAR racing.Baptized and confirmed in 1950, he was a member of
the Sharpsville Methodist Church. Eldon has been a member in good
standing of the Masonic Fraternity for 50 years. He also was a 50
year member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks.In 1968 and again in 1971, Eldon was named Indiana
Tomato Champion Grower by Stokely Van Camp, Inc. In 1985 and 1998,
Sharp-View Farms hosted for Purdue University, the farm tour for The
Indiana Farm Management Association which featured tomatoes,
cucumbers and peppers. He was Secretary for the Tipton County Farm
Bureau Co-op Board of Directors for two terms. He also served on
the Tri-Central School Board.Eldon is survived by his daughter Selita Reichart
and husband Brian, Frankton, IN, and his son Scott Smith and wife
Terri, Windfall, IN; grandsons Beau Reichart, Colt Reichart, and
Shawn Smith and his wife Julie and great-grandson Andrew AJ Smith
He is also survived by one granddaughter Shanie Smith. He was
preceded in death by his eldest granddaughter, Shanna Smith in
2006. Eldon also has a half brother Leonard Smith, Greentown, IN,
and an uncle, Ralph Simpson, Swayzee, IN, along with several nieces
and nephews.Eldons funeral service will be at 11:00 AM,
Wednesday, December 1 at the Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W.
Jefferson Street, Tipton, IN 46072, with the Rev. Carl Roudebush
presiding. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in
Greentown, IN. Friends may call from 4:00 8:00 PM, Tuesday
November 30, at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the
