Earl Edward Nelson

Earl Edward Nelson, 94 of Tipton died at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his residence. He was born on July 20, 1923 in Chicago to Julius Oscar & Irene Isabella (Nelson) Nelson.  On August 28, 1943 he married Dorothy Mildred Peterson and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2016.

Earl served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 during WWII.  Prior to joining the service he worked for a railroad in downtown Chicago as a key punch operator and with early computers.  He was a self-employed carpenter doing business first as Martin & Nelson and later as Nelson Construction Company.

Earl was a graduate of Morgan Park High School in Chicago.  He belonged to the Evangelical United Brethren Church where he was a trustee. He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Eagles Lodge in Kokomo and enjoyed bowling and playing golf at the Tipton Golf Course.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Kemp and husband Ronald, Cumming, Georgia and Diane Delelio and husband Robert, Green Valley, Arizona; two grandchildren, Cheri Hollowell and husband Jonathan, Crown Point, and David Delelio and wife Dawn, Kokomo; four great grand-children, Joshua Hollowell, Benjamin Hollowell, Taylor Delelio and Andrew Delelio; a nephew Bob Fleck and wife Charlene, Mokena, Illinois.  Earl was preceded in death by one sister, June Fleck.

Earl’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Glenn Peterson presiding.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday.

Memorial donations in Earl’s honor may be made to either the Tipton American Legion, 129 N. Independence Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072 or to St. Vincent Hospice, 311 South Berkley Road, Kokomo, Indiana, 46901.
