Dorothy Mildred Nelson, 93 of Tipton died at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her residence. Dorothy was born on January 1, 1923 in Chicago where she lived until about age 8. She then lived in Alsip, Illinois until moving to Tipton in 1990. Her parents were Ben Robert & Mildred Dorothy (Erickson) Peterson. Dorothy married Earl Edward Nelson on August 28, 1943 and he survives.
She had worked as an Administrative Assistant for La Rochele, Brooks and Beardley law firm, Chicago Title and Trust, WR Grace, and Zonolite. Dorothy was a graduate of Blue Island Community High School in Blue Island, Illinois. She had belonged to the United Methodist Church. Dorothy was an artist and enjoyed painting, sewing, reading, yoga, knitting, and golf.
Survivors besides her husband Earl include two daughters, Donna Kemp and husband Ronald, Roswell, Georgia and Diane Delelio and husband Robert, Oswego, Illinois; one sister, Nancy Marie Dalenberg, Laguna Woods, California; one sister-in-law, Renee Nickola Chicago; two grandchildren, Cheri Hollowell and husband Jonathon, Crown Point, and David Delelio and wife Dawn, Kokomo; four great grand-children, Joshua Hollowell, Benjamin Hollowell, Taylor Delelio and Andrew Delelio.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Robert Peterson and LeRoy Peterson.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Glenn Peterson presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from Noon until the time of the service.
