Deloris Powell

Deloris PowellDeloris Powell, 84, Tipton, died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Tipton Hospital.  She was born October 2, 1924 in Elwood to Clarence E. & Maggie C. (Miller) Butler.  On September 4, 1940 she married Gene Powell and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1970.She was a cook for the Sisters of St. Joseph for 30 years and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton.Deloris is survived by one son. Larry Powell and wife Lil, Tipton, one daughter, Linda Plake and husband Fred, Tipton, one brother, Denny Butler, Tipton, and one sister, Virginia Melloh, Spencer.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brett Powell, Lisa Duff and Chad Edwards, and five great-grandchildren.  Five brothers and sisters are deceased.Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding.  Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. and a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 340 Mill Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
