David L. KinderDavid L. Kinder, 78 of
Sellersburg and formerly of Tipton died at 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 20,
2015 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born
May 14, 1937 in Elwood to Lowell H. & Madonna (Clyde) Kinder.
On September 21, 1974 he married Charlotte Rogers and she survives.He attended St John the Baptist Catholic School and then Tipton High
School. After high school he attended Indiana State Teachers
College, Terre Haute, Indiana, graduated from Indiana Mortuary
College and then served in the United States Army, 4th Armored
Division, Goppingen, Germany as a cryptologist.He was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a
Sergeant and upon returning to the United States he became a member
of the Indiana State Police Department and served for twenty-five
years, retiring in 1990. While with the Indiana State Police
he graduated from the Keeler Polygraph School, Chicago, Illinois and
graduated from the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia.
Dave was the Chief of Police for Sellersburg from 1990 to 2000.
He was also the current Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Sellersburg,
serving since January of 2000.
During this time he also worked for the Indiana State
Fair for 24 years with their transport shuttles.He was a member
of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, Board of Directors,
St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Past Exalted
Ruler and Treasurer of the Jeffersonville Elks Lodge. Dave had also
been a member of Moose, American Legion Post 204, and FOP. He had served as a special deputy for Clark County. Among his many
awards he was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by the State of Indiana
and a Kentucky Colonel.Dave loved to
play golf and also enjoyed mowing the grass at Covered Bridge Golf
Course. He loved talking to everyone and was truly one of
those people who never met a stranger.Survivors besides
his wife Charlotte include two daughters, Beth Anne Hanner,
Columbus, Indiana and Michele Brown and husband Paul, Porter,
Indiana; four granddaughters, Brittane Kinder, Jordan K. Brown,
Hunter Ann Brown and Kennedy C. Brown; one brother, James Kinder and
wife Linda, Fishers, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one
sister, Mary Alice Nichols.A funeral mass
will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at St. Paul Catholic
Church, Sellersburg, with Rev. Tom Clegg presiding. Honors
from the American Legion and the Indiana State Police will be
presented at the church. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on
Friday at Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg.
