Darlyn Carson-Curnutt, aged 86, of Tipton, departed this world peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 3:40 p.m. Born on June 4, 1938, in Noblesville, Indiana, she was the cherished daughter of Wayne and Inza (Stokes) Carson. Darlyn enriched the lives of those around her throughout her remarkable journey, which included a vibrant chapter spent on Anna Maria Island in Florida and later in Bradenton, before returning home to Tipton.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Tipton, Darlyn's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to service and community. Her dedication was further exemplified through her involvement with Phi Beta Psi Sorority, where she held the position of president from 1969 to 1971. As a volunteer nurse with the Tipton County Health Department, Darlyn passionately tended to the health needs of migrant camps, displaying the compassion and care that defined her nursing career. Her multifaceted talents also found expression at a church camp, celebrating her love for the outdoors and nurturing young spirits.
Darlyn found joy in life's simple pleasures—whether it was indulging in games of bingo or Hand & Foot, trying her luck at the casinos, or reveling in the art of home decoration. Her love for literature was profound, culminating in the creation of a personal library that fostered her passion for reading. Above all, Darlyn's heart belonged to her family, as she cherished every moment spent in their company.
An accomplished graduate of Walnut Grove High School, Class of 1956, Darlyn continued her education at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1959. Her dedication to nursing flourished as she took on significant roles, including head nurse at Tipton Hospital from 1968 to 1973 and later as the Director of Nursing in several nursing homes. Before her retirement from nursing in 2014, she served as a team leader for Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Beverly Enterprises, culminating her service with the Manatee County Health Department in Florida, where she worked as an epidemiologist.
Darlyn is lovingly remembered by her four children: Scott Curnutt of Sarasota, Florida; Julie Curnutt-Grinstead, and her husband Gary, of Lima, Ohio; Jill Curnutt-Howerton, and her husband Kenny, of Tipton; and Brett Curnutt, and his wife Terri, of Rochester, Indiana. She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Larry Caylor, Penny Schoettlin-Wex, Jim Caylor and his wife Lynn, Marla Carson-Featherstone and her husband Forest “Frosty,” and Stephanie Schoettlin-Sanchez and her husband Jeff, along with sister-in-law Gerry Caylor.
