Carolyn Jacquier Etchison, 90, of Tipton died at 9:45 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, at I.U Health – Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Carolyn was born in Arcadia, Indiana, on January 11, 1929, to John J. & Edra A. (Startzman) Jacquier. She grew up in Arcadia and also lived in Covington, Indiana, for 20 years. On January 20, 1952, she married Junior Dallas Etchison who preceded her in death on January 9, 2005.
Carolyn first worked as a secretary for the Indiana Secretary of State. She also worked as a legal secretary and was the co-owner with her husband of the House of Flowers in Tipton. She was the first Executive Director of the Tipton County Historical Society. Carolyn was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the BPW (Business and Professional Women), Mu Epsilon Lambda, and the DAR. She graduated from Jackson Central High School in 1946, and was the first woman to be elected to the Covington Community Schools Board of Education. She had belonged to the Tipton and Hamilton County Democratic parties and the Tipton County Democrat Women’s Club.
Survivors include her four children: Patti Etchison, Tipton; John Michael Etchison, Atlanta; Mary Etchison Delph and husband Terry, Tipton; and Susie Etchison Bailey and husband Dennis, Atlanta; two sisters, Beverly Jacquier, Indianapolis, and Elizabeth J. Lewis, Sun City, Arizona; Mary Patterson, who was like a sister; four grandchildren: Nichole (Tyson) Biddle, Stephanie (Sam) Sarpong, Rachael Brewer, and Elizabeth Bailey; and several step-grandchildren. Carolyn also has four great-grandchildren: Lucy Burkett, Grant Burkett, Jocelyn Erwin, and Jaylen Sarpong as well as several step-great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was preceded in death by three sisters: Marilyn Adams, Patricia Jacquier and Janet Waugh, and one brother, John Jacquier.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Goth presiding. Burial will follow in Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, where a Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
