Carol L. Simmons, 87 of Tipton died at 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born in Indianapolis on December 25, 1929 to Herald Herman and Ethelwyne Greihel (Nalley) Arnholter. She married John “Jack” Simmons on June 23, 1951 and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2009.
Carol worked many years as the secretary at Tipton High School before keeping the books at the family John Deere store and eventually worked as the secretary for the Tipton County Highway Department. She was a member of Normanda Christian Church where she was a beloved Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Tri-Kappa and enjoyed playing cards, belonging to many bridge clubs. Carol also enjoyed knitting, and crossword puzzles, but her greatest love was for family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol was a Purdue graduate. She and Jack were avid Boilermaker Football fans and enjoyed following the Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include two sons, Michael L. Simmons, Indianapolis, Mark A. Simmons and wife Sherry, Tipton; one daughter, Caren L. Placke and husband Fred, Highland Village, Texas; seven grandchildren, Carey Frazer and husband James, Gregory Placke, Fred Placke and wife Erin, Rebekah O’Sullivan and husband James, Trae Simmons, Tegan Simmons, and Tana Simmons; six great-grandchildren, McKinley and Peyton Frazer, Avner and Charlie O’Sullivan, Avery Placke and Gabriel Placke.
Carol was preceded in death by a daughter, Carey L. Simmons.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, at the Normanda Christian Church with Steve Brown presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from Noon on Thursday until the time of service.
