Bernard M. ZaussBernard M. Zauss, 90, Sharpsville, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday,
August 1, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. He was born
May 3, 1919 in Sharpsville to Lawrence & Stella (Wilburn) Zauss.
He married Mary L. Walsh on June 12, 1948 and she preceded him in
death on March 15, 2009.Bernard had retired from farming and being a rural mail carrier.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo, The
American Legion, Sharpsville Lions Club, and was a 4-H leader.
Bernard served in the Navy in the South Pacific in WWII and was
wounded in the second battle of
Guadalcanal.He is survived by one son, Kenny Zauss, Shelbyville; three daughters,
Patti Beck, Sharpsville, Rita Jackson, Mitchell, and Rosey
Bolte, Nashville, Indiana. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 10
great grandchildren, and siblings, Vincent Zauss, LaGrange, Illinois,
Sister Rosemary Zauss, Tipton and Betty-Ann Walsh, Detroit,
Michigan.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, at St.
Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo with Rev. David Hasser presiding.
Burial with military rites will follow at St. Johns' Cemetery,
Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at
Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with the Rosary being said at 4:00 p.m.
There will also
be visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1440
