Margaret E. Powell

Margaret E. PowellMargaret E. Powell, 88 of Tipton died Thursday morning October 14, 2010 at home.  She was born June 12, 1922 in Peru, Indiana to Emery Lee and Grace Jane (Bakehorn) Tomlinson.  On December 24, 1941 she married Ernie Powell and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2010.Margaret was a member of the Tetersburg Christian Church and attended Rock Prairie Baptist Church.  She retired from Tipton Hospital in 1988 after 30 years working in various capacities.  Margaret was also a volunteer at the hospital serving over 3161 hours from 1988 to 2006.She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed watching all the sports activities, 4-H activities,  and church activities that her family enjoyed.  She helped her husband work on the farm for many years.  Margaret had a green thumb and enjoyed growing flowers and working in her garden.  Above all she loved her Lord and was a Christian example for her family.Survivors include two daughters, Judy Colbert and husband Carl, Windfall, Jane Anderson, Tipton; two sons, Jim Powell and wife Annie, Tipton, Joe Powell and wife Kathy, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Cindy Bickford, Kevin Colbert, Mindy Colbert, Rick Powell, Jennifer Frodge, Scott Powell, Lori Seaman, Jessica Higginbotham, and Justin Anderson;14 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother Verlin Francis Tomlinson and one sister Anna Marie Helvie.Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.The family wishes to express the gratitude to the wonderful caregivers who stayed with mom and made it possible for her to stay in her home.Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Prairie Baptist Church, 421 Ash Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
